Red Mountain Reading Series Presents Poet, Profess Red Mountain Reading Series Presents Poet, Professor, and Humorist Juliana Gray
Wednesday, March 10, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

The Red Mountain Reading Series announces a reading and talk by poet, professor, and humorist Juliana Gray on Wednesday, March 10, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Originally from Anniston, Alabama, Gray relocated in 2006 to western New York, where she teaches at Alfred University. She has also been on staff at the prestigious Sewanee Writers' Conference. Her third poetry collection, Honeymoon Palsy, was published in 2017. Her 2012 collection, Roleplay, won the 2010 Orphic Prize and the 2013 Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize. She has also written humor pieces for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, including one named to their Top 20 of 2020.

This event is free and open to the public. It will be held through Zoom, and registration is required. Register and join here: https://jeffersonstate.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_cNlH7_S-Q4OwrKyOsVsLBg.

The theme for the 2021 Red Mountain Reading Series is “crossing genres.” Our presenters this year have all had success in more than one field of literary expression. Their presentations will discuss their experiences finding inspiration and working in multiple genres.

Pioneer Pantry Food Distributions - March 4 & 6 J Pioneer Pantry Food Distributions - March 4 & 6

Jefferson State’s Pioneer Pantry will host two food distributions on the Jefferson Campus this Thursday, March 4th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again on Saturday March 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will distribute pre-packaged food bags in front of the Fitzgerald Student Center (2601 Carson Road, Birmingham, AL 35215). The number of people in your household will determine how many bags you are eligible to receive. During the actual distributions, all recipients must remain inside their vehicles; Pioneer Pantry volunteers wearing masks will pass food bags through the window or place them in the back seat or trunk of each recipient’s vehicle.

First-time pantry customers should register in advance by clicking this link:
www.jeffersonstate.edu/pantry-registration.

Existing customers who have received food bags in the past do not need to register again—instead, just contact Matt Boehm by text (205-529-4443) or email (mboehm@jeffersonstate.edu) and let him know whether you plan to pick up bags on Thursday, March 4th or Saturday, March 6th.
We are very #proud of @tazikis Founder and Jeffers We are very #proud of @tazikis Founder and Jefferson State Alumnus Keith Richards! Not only is Keith a leader in the restaurant business, he is a leader in #HelpingOthers !

Go Far Alumni: @tazikis MEDITERRANEAN CAFE FOUNDER KEITH RICHARDS
Keith’s first dose of college was at Jefferson State but not for the training that he is nationally recognized for now. He attended the college to pursue art a little more than a decade before founding the restaurant in 1998. Since then he has been a major influence in the nation and the state. His character is evident through the Hope Project he launched in 2012. The project partners with Shelby County Schools to help produce “hope” for students with special needs. A portion of the herbs produced during students’ work with the Hope Project is used at Tazikis restaurants. Here’s his advice to students considering community college: “If you’re undecided about a career path, community college can help with your decision before diving into a 4-year program. What we offer at Jeff State is smaller class size and more student/teacher ratio. For me, it was the cost as well.”
Thanks, Keith!
